Welcome to Gold and Soul – a space to share stories of strength, take photos of beauty and celebrate the art, culture and people who make this crazy world so special.
I’m Gem, and it’s really nice to meet you
I’m Gem, I’m 18 years old and this blog is my creative baby.
Sydney, Australia, at the moment.
Describe yourself in 3 words
Clumsy, goofy and colourful.
What are you doing at the moment? What do you want to be doing?
Right now I’m studying fashion and searching for the perfect almond chai latte, but what I want to be doing is blogging fashion and culture, plus travelling around the world.
Your spirit animal?
Probably a guinea pig, but one wearing sunglasses or a hat… I have a weakness for animals in people clothes.
Something you’re dying to try is…
Veganism. I’ve been doing it lazily for months, but I want to commit to it fully. Also skydiving and anti-gravity yoga!
If you could teleport anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
Right now it’s a 3 way tie between Morocco, India or Mexico, but I need to save way more to cover all the shopping I’d do!!! I have a plan to visit as many countries in the world as I can.
What keeps you sane?
Adventures – I live for jumping in the car with my boyfriend and finding new places, taking photographs, having deep conversations and the ocean.
What makes your bones tingle?
Waterfalls, mango smoothies, forehead kisses, anything paisley, sunrises, fashion magazines, 70s crochet and powerful women.
If you could change something about the world, what would it be?
I would change our attitude to raising kids based on gender, rather than morals. We have such different standards for boys and girls, and we tell them how to act based on what’s seen as appropriate for boys or girls to do, rather than just treating everyone as a human. I want to live in a world where my brothers and I have the same responsibilities, the same opportunities and the same consequences. WE’RE ALL HUMANS!!!
What’s something you’re afraid of?
Im terrified of wolves and scary movies.
Also scared of how much i love the Twilight Saga and peanut butter (it’s not healthy!)
What do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as someone who was open to the world and to the people in my life. I want to be remembered by my cheeky grin and annoying laugh and my tendency to start tap dancing in public places. I want to be remembered as a creative, a peace maker and above all else, a friend.
Words for everyone to live by?
Find beauty and value in everyone and everything around you, but never settle.
